From Municipal Building to Luxury Hotel

Historical Roots of La Posada

Built around four historic buildings, La Posada stands where the old Casa Consistorial once did. 

The site transformed from a municipal building and jail to Laredo High School in 1886. 

Today, this area houses the hotel's main entrance, Front Desk, Lobby, Zaragoza Grill, 

meeting rooms, the Phillip V Ballroom, The Tesoro Club, and administrative offices.

of the Rio Grande dating back to the 1830s. The elegant Bruni Home hosts the famous Tack Room Steak House.

Honoring Barbara Fasken

A Woman Who Means Business

Barbara Fasken, an aviator and philanthropist, purchased La Posada in 1994. Her legacy of love for Laredo and 

appreciation for history lives on. La Posada sponsors historic community events and awards local non-profits. 

The hotel's symbol, a Spanish doubloon, represents security, trust, beauty, and value, ideals 

upheld by the hotel management.

Renovation, Legacy, and Historic Preservation

Barbara Fasken's Vision for La Posada

An adventurous aviator and beacon of philanthropy, Barbara Fasken purchased La Posada Hotel in 1994. Known for her love of Laredo, Fasken brought a piece of Mexico to this side of the border. Under her direction, the hotel underwent a significant renovation, transforming guest rooms and public spaces. The Fasken family's Palafox Hospitality Ltd. invested $17 million in a 2006 renovation to upgrade the hotel. The Bartolome Garcia House-Capitol of the Republic of the Rio Grande, a historic sandstone building from the 1800s, now serves as the Museum of the Republic of the Rio Grande, showcasing an authentic 1830s Laredo home.
